This little-known website can solve many of your mutual fund needs

Most people's mutual funds are scattered across fund houses and two registrars, each with its own login. It is why a simple question, do my funds even have a nominee, is so hard to answer. One free, official site fixes it.

A few folios with one fund house, a few with another, serviced behind the scenes by two different registrars, each with its own statement. It is a mess that builds up over the years, one folio at a time. The site that fixes it is free and official, and it is called MF Central.

What it is

MF Central is run jointly by CAMS and KFintech, the two registrars that between them service almost every mutual fund in India. It pulls all your folios, across more than 40 fund houses, into a single view. You log in with your PAN and a one-time password on your registered mobile. There is nothing to pay.

What you can do there now

When it launched it only handled service requests. It has grown well past that. Today you can:

The nominee point, which is the reason to log in today

The most common thing people cannot answer is whether their mutual funds carry a nominee at all. On MF Central you can see the nomination status of every folio, and add or fix the nominee across multiple folios in one go, rather than chasing each fund house separately. If you have never checked, check this week. A folio with no nominee is exactly how money gets stranded.

The one setup catch

MF Central ties folios to a mobile number. Register with the number linked to the most folios. Any folio sitting under a different mobile number will show as unregistered until you update that number, so you may need a round of updates before everything appears.

What it will not do

It is not a performance tracker, so no returns or XIRR charts. It does not serve NRIs. For a capital-gains statement you still go to CAMS directly.

The move

Register today with your PAN. Check the nominee on every folio and fix the blanks. Then keep it as your one door for statements and changes, instead of logging into five fund houses. The half hour it takes is the cheapest housekeeping your money will ever get.
